International Experience Canada (IEC)

What is IEC?

International Experience Canada offers the chance for citizens of partner countries* to travel and work in Canada for up to 2 years. The program is designed to enhance the relationship between Canada and the over 30 participating countries from around the world. Participating countries each have distinct eligibility requirements. If you’re a citizen of a partner country, you may be able to apply. If you aren’t a citizen of a partner country, you may still be able to apply to IEC through a recognized organization.

Categories include Working Holiday, Young Professionals, International Co-op (Internship). Eligible candidates range in age from 18-35 depending on their citizenship and the program they are applying to.

*Andorra, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Chile, Costa Rica, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong SAR, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Republic, Latvia Republic, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, San Marino, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Ukraine, United Kingdom.  (Requirements and program participation vary by country).

  • you have a job offer in Canada that contributes to your professional development.

  • you'll work for the same employer in the same location during your stay in Canada

 

*Under this category, work must be:

  • Paid

  • not self-employed

Digital Nomad

International Co-op

This category is for you if:

​

  • you're a student registered at a post-secondary institution (outside of Canada)

  • you have a job offer for a work placement or internship in Canada

  • this work placement or internship is a requirement to complete your studies

  • you'll work for the same employer in the same location during your stay in Canada
